2006 Hispanics in Engineering National Conference

Students from Group 2 of the UPR/PUPR/ATI Professional Development Program, participated in the Poster Presentation at the 2006 Hispanics in Engineering National Conference.  The Hispanics in Engineering National Conference serves as a unique national forum in which non Hispanic engineering colleges and universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, minority institutions, private industry, Federal and State governments can meet to discuss and exchange ideas, review best practices, establish networks, and disseminate information on the best and most exemplary practices in promoting the engineering profession in the Hispanic community.  From K-12 through the undergraduate, graduate and workforce continuum, this national conference expands the discussion beyond the Hispanic community and broadly engages the pool of stakeholders in this area of national need.

The National Conference on Hispanics in Engineering 2006 will bring together once again over 250 participants for a national discussion on the best practices of promoting the engineering professions within the Hispanic community on the continuum from K-12 education, undergraduate, graduate school and engineering workforce development. The information obtained on best practices along the conference?s five tracks will serve to provide this information to ABET accredited, as well as non-ABET accredited, engineering colleges who seek to increase their Hispanic student enrollment and employers in their quest to increase their Hispanic engineering workforce. Based on the 2004 conference outcomes and suggestions, a graduate school fair and a student research poster day will be perform as part of this year conference to serve as a feeder for Hispanic students to engineering colleges and universities attending.
